
SHI101: Shiatsu
Welcome to the Shiatsu Massage Therapy course at the Moua Institute of Massage. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Shiatsu, a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan that uses kneading, pressing, soothing, tapping, and stretching techniques and is performed without oils through light, comfortable clothing.
Throughout this course, you will explore:
- Introduction to Shiatsu: Learn about the history and principles of Shiatsu, and how it can complement massage therapy.
- Understanding Meridians and Pressure Points: Explore the concept of meridians, the energy pathways in the body, and pressure points, the specific points along these pathways that are targeted in Shiatsu.
- Techniques of Shiatsu: Master the techniques of applying pressure using thumbs, fingers, and palms, assisted stretching, joint manipulation and mobilization.
- Safety and Contraindications: Understand the safety considerations and contraindications for Shiatsu.
- Practical Application: Learn how to incorporate Shiatsu into your massage sessions to address various health concerns, from relieving tension and pain to promoting relaxation and balance.
By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of Shiatsu and be equipped to safely and effectively incorporate Shiatsu techniques into your massage therapy practice.
